Safety Beach is a small seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula around 70km from the CBD. It was formerly known as ‘Shark Bay’, but it famously changed its name to Safety Beach in the mid-1960s in order to attract tourists.
Safety Beach is well maintained and a popular tourist destination during the summer months and low key during winter. It is also the home of Martha Cove Marina – a large inland harbour and residential development which was established in 2004.
Overall Safety Beach is a very family-friendly and welcoming area and offers a variety of different forms of property ranging from higher-density units and townhouses to larger houses. It has many different types of people living there, including families, professionals, retirees, singles and just plain ‘beach lovers’.
Safety Beach has a calm, sandy bay and a swimming beach which is popular for boating and jet skiing and there is a pier. The foreshore reserve has a children’s playground and BBQ areas with shading.
