It is safe and suitable for families.  The water is crystal clear and lovely to swim in the deeper patches. There is a boat ramp located opposite Burdett St (Tootgarook). The ramp is open for launching from Spring until the end of April. No fees apply to launch. Grassy, powered and unpowered camping sites are located along the foreshore reserve, some with absolute beach frontage.

It is also home to the Tootgarook Wetlands which supports many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna where you can do some enjoyable walks however most of the wetlands is in private ownership

There are a few shops and cafes dotted along the esplanade however with easy access to Rye and Rosebud, you have all the shops and amenities you need. If you are looking for somewhere a little more affordable than its well-known popular neighbours it is definitely worth a look.
